Introduction to the Montessori method
The Montessori method is an educational method for children, based on theories of child development originated by Italian educator Maria Montessori in the late 19th and early 20th century. It is applied primarily in preschool and elementary school settings, though some Montessori high schools exist.
The method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child and clinical observation on the part of the teacher (often called a "director", "directress", or "guide"). It stresses the importance of adapting the child's learning environment to his developmental level, and of the role of physical activity in absorbing academic concepts and practical skills.
Although there are many schools which use the name "Montessori," the word itself is not recognized as a trademark, nor is it associated with a single specific organization. Thus it is legally possible to use the term "Montessori" without necessary adherence to a particular training or teaching method. Nonetheless, schools identifying themselves as "Montessori schools" generally apply this method in their teaching.
Enrollment/Inscripción
The application process for this school is the same as for other magnet schools. Prospective students apply before the January deadline. Applications include: birth certificate, proof of residence, and (if applying for a scholarship) copy of first two pages of tax return or past 3 months paycheck stubs from all individuals living in the home who are employed. A lottery determines acceptance. Priority is given to students residing in Area 1 attendance areas for schools: Bryant Webster, Smedley, Valdez, Columbian). If there are slots available after this process, students in Area 2 and then other applicants outside these areas are admitted.
El proceso de inscripción de la Academia Sandoval es el mismo que el de las escuelas no tradicionales. La solicitud de matricula se debe de completar antes de la fecha limite dada en Febrero. La solicitud de inscripción incluye: Acta de nacimiento, prueba de domicilio y (si esta aplicando por beca) copia de la declaración de impuestos (taxes – primeras dos páginas) o los talones de ingreso de los últimos tres meses de cada una de las personas que trabajan y viven en el mismo domicilio. La admisión a la escuela es determinada por medio de un sorteo o lotería. Se les da prioridad a los estudiantes que residen en el Área 1 (residentes correspondientes a las escuelas: Bryant-Webster, Smedley, Valdez, Columbian). Si hay espacios disponibles después de este proceso entonces la siguiente prioridad es para el Área 2, y luego para el resto de las áreas.
Dual Language/Lenguje Dual
While the rest of the global world does not give a second thought to living in a bilingual or multicultural environment, the society in which we live is asking “Why Dual Language?” One simple fact is that knowing more than one language is beneficial to both individuals and to the society. The goal of Dual Language is to cultivate a bilingual and biliterate student body that will translate to a bilingual and biliterate community at large.
Entretanto que el resto del mundo global no da un segundo pensamiento de vivir en un ambiente bilingüe o multicultural, la sociedad en que vivimos esta preguntando “¿Por qué Lenguaje Dual?” un simple factor es que saber más de un idioma es beneficial tanto para los individuos como también para la sociedad. La meta del Lenguaje Dual es de cultivar un conjunto de estudiantes bilingües y bilaterarios y pasarlos a una comunidad bilingüe y bilateral en general.
Montessori
Dr. Maria Montessori believed, “No human being is educated by another person. He must do it himself or it will never be done. A truly educated individual continues learning long after the hours and years he spends in a classroom because a natural curiosity and love for knowledge motivate him from within.” She felt that the goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate the child’s own desire to learn.
To accomplish this, the prepared environment of the classroom is full of concrete, hands-on materials in the areas of practical life, sensorial, language, art, cultural, math, and geography.
Un pensamiento de la Dra. Maria Montessori, “Ningún ser humano es educado por otra persona. Tiene que hacerlo por si mismo o nunca lo lograra. Un individuo verdaderamente educado continua aprendiendo aun después de las horas y años que ha pasado en el aula de clases, por que la curiosidad y el amor natural por el conocimiento le motivan en su interior.”
Para lograr esto, el ambiente preparado del salón esta lleno de materiales concretos y manuales en las áreas de vida, practica, sensorial, lenguaje, arte, cultura, matemática y geografía.

Por medio de nuestro programa de Lenguaje Dual Montessori proporcionamos una educación equitativa y de calidad para una diversa comunidad de niños.
Orientation/Orientación
The first two weeks of school are used for the classroom orientation for Primary students. The Dual Language Montessori prepared environment is quite specific and Primary Program children must have a gradual ntroduction individually or in small groups.
* Five year olds attend each day.
* Three and four year olds attend in small groups on specific days with youngest children being phased-in first. This enables teachers to spend more time orienting them to the classroom on an individual basis and providing them with a smooth transition. Once a child has started to attend, she/he will continue to attend each day.
Las dos primeras semanas de escuela son dedicadas para orientar a los niños de las clases primarias. El ambiente preparado Montessori es muy específico y los niños de las clases primarias deber ser introducidos gradualmente, ya sea en forma individual o en grupos pequeños.
* Los niños de cinco años inician la escuela desde el primer día de clases.
* Los niños de tres y cuatro años de edad inician en grupos pequeños y en días específicos siendo los mas pequeños introducidos primero.
Tuition/Colegiatura
Tuition is required for 3, 4, and 5 year olds only. Tuition (9 payments) are due on the fifteenth of each month, August – April. There are a limited number of full and partial scholarships available. A scale that takes into account the total household income and the number of people residing in the home determines eligibility. Individuals applying for a scholarship must fill out the necessary paperwork and submit a copy of the last W2 form or paycheck stubs, from the past 3 months, of all employed individuals living in the home.
Full Tuition - $370 Month
Partial Tuition - $175 Month
Scholarship - $40 Month
Se requiere pago de colegiatura para los niños de 3, 4, y 5 años solamente. Son 9 pagos (agosto-abril) pagaderos el día 15 de cada mes. La elegibilidad para beca se determina de acuerdo a una escala basada en el ingreso total y el número de personas que viven en el hogar. Las personas que soliciten beca deben de llenar la papelería necesaria y entregar una copia del documento W2 o los talones de ingreso de los últimos tres meses, por cada una de las personas que trabajan y viven en la casa.
